Amy Rose Bowl Trophy

Congratulations to Erika White for once again being selected to play for Kent ‘A’ in this national competition at Leamington Spa.  Following a win against Worcestershire (33-27) in the 2nd Round and success against Cornwall (35-25) in the Quarter Final, the team couldn’t quite manage to beat Somerset ‘B’ (25-30) in the Semi Final.

Chilmington Cup

This late-season Club competition for the smallest trophy in the cabinet once more attracted a fair turnout. It was, as ever, impossible to predict the outcome until the last ends were played.
The final result was:

2nd:  Rob Theobald  (35 points)
3rd:   Charlotte Cuckow  (34 points)

Consolation Prize:  Trevor Green  (11 points).

Jean Aldam

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of former member Jean Aldam.  Jean was a staunch supporter of the Club and, with her ‘no nonsense’ approach, was often to be found with her sleeves rolled up sorting out something that others were reluctant to tackle.  On the green she was happy to play in any position, but everyone knew her as a formidable lead.

Club records are vague as to when she joined, but the earliest mention found was when she and Stan Brook won the Club’s Mixed Pairs competition in 1987.  In 1991 she won the Ladies’ Handicap competition, followed in 1994 and 1997 by the Ladies’ Championship.

In 2000 she was one of the team that won the Ladies’ County Fours, for which she was awarded her Kent Badge in 2001.  2004 saw her win the Club’s Ladies’ 2-Wood trophy and she was also a member of Lenham’s victorious Mollie Cleggett Trophy winning team.  She won the Club’s Handicap competition again in 2005.

2006 saw her win the County’s Officers Cup (pictured) and she was also in the team that won that year’s Ladies’ County Fours, followed up by progression to the 3rd Round of the National Finals at Leamington.

In 2007 she won the Handicap competition for the 3rd time.  Her final success with us was in 2012 when she was once again in the Lenham team that won the Mollie Cleggett Trophy.

In addition to all the bowling, Jean was a member of the Club’s Management Committee from 2003-2005 and again from 2008-2011. She was also, for many years, Treasurer of the Club’s Ladies’ Section.

In 2013 she and Eric moved from Harrietsham to Somerset where they soon located a local club (Castle Cary BC, we believe) at which they continued to enjoy their bowling whilst still maintaining friendships from their Lenham days.

We send our sincere condolences to Eric and the family.

Jean’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 17th October 2017 at 2pm at Mendip Crematorium, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

The family would prefer donations rather than flowers, with the money to be shared between three of Jean’s favoured charities; MacMillan Nursing, British Heart Foundation and Children In Need.
