The Green is

OBITUARY:  Mr Arthur Clarke

Members will be saddened to learn of the passing of past member Arthur Clarke at the end of September.

Arthur joined the Club on 28th June 1984 and was a stalwart member for the following 29 years – when he wasn’t playing golf!  The mid eighties were a golden period for the Club with bowling of the highest calibre in evidence and so it was, perhaps, understandable that it took a little while for him to register in the records.  He did, however, persevere and won the Men’s Novice Cup in 1992.

In 2001 he was elected Men’s Captain, a post to which he was re-elected in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007.  He had also been elected as a Trustee in 2001 and served on the Management Committee in this capacity until he became Club President (2011-13), an elevation of which he was, rightly, very proud.

Arthur was a keen supporter of the Royal British Legion and played a lot of bowls for them, even managing to get a few games at RBL county level.  He also became a member of Charing BC where, in search of competitive matches, he enjoyed playing for them in the Forest of Blean league.

Arthur’s funeral service will be held at Charing Crematorium on Thursday 7th November at 11am.

Club Clothing

Will members please be aware that responsibility for the supply of Club shirts, fleece jackets and ladies’ cardigans has been passed to Peter Munn for the time being.  Please speak to Peter in good time if you require anything as we don’t hold large stocks and lead times can sometimes be longer than we might wish.
